Privacy Policy
Nyquist is built to keep your listening entirely to yourself. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app does and does not do with your information.
Summary: Nyquist collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The app makes no network calls other than reading the file or NAS shares you explicitly add.
Data we collect
None. Nyquist does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. It contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no crash-reporting services, and no user accounts or sign-in of any kind. In Apple's App Privacy terms, Nyquist is labeled Data Not Collected for every category.
File & folder access
Nyquist is a sandboxed, file-first music player. It reads only the folders you explicitly grant through the system file picker, stored as security-scoped bookmarks so your locations reopen on future launches.
- A grant covers the selected folder and everything below it, but not its parents.
- Your music files, metadata, and folder structure never leave your devices and are never sent to us or any third party.
- You can revoke access at any time by removing a location in the app or via your operating system's privacy settings.
Network activity
Nyquist makes no network calls of its own. The only network access that can occur is direct reading of the NAS or file shares you add yourself (for example an SMB share mounted through the Files app). That traffic goes between your device and your own server — never to us, and never to any analytics or advertising endpoint.
On-device storage
To work well, Nyquist saves a small amount of information locally on your device only. This never leaves the device:
- Security-scoped bookmarks for the folders you've granted.
- Cached audio metadata (format, sample rate, bit depth, cover art).
- Preferences such as output device, volume, bit-perfect toggles, favorites, and recents.
- For NAS playback, a temporary local copy of the current/next track to make seeks and gapless rotation instant.
Third parties
Nyquist integrates no third-party services, SDKs, or data partners. Because no data is collected, none is ever shared with anyone.
Children's privacy
Nyquist is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. Since it collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
